Summer Game Jam & Cook-Out 2012

Event Details:
The Cleveland Game Devs Meetup group will be holding their Summer Game Jam event from 7:00 PM EST on Friday, August 24th 2012 through 3:00 PM EST Sunday, August 26th 2012. Game Jams are a unique experience where artists, coders, designers and musicians collaborate to build videogames or boardgames over a weekend based on a specific theme. As part of the Summer Game Jam event, we will also be holding a cook-out on Friday night. We'll provide grilled foods, including vegan options, on Friday night and beverages all weekend. If you can bring a dish to share it would be greatly appreciated but this is optional. We are also excited to announce that Handelabra Studios (home of the GAME.minder app) has kindly sponsored the event meals for both Friday and Saturday night.

We will be holding the event at the Shaker|LaunchHouse startup incubator. LaunchHouse (http://launchhouse.com) is a lean new public-private partnership that fosters entrepreneurial success and job creation through seed capital, education and innovation. This  Northeast Ohio organization connects new entrepreneurs with proven business leaders in a grassroots, for-profit model that can be successfully replicated nationwide. This is an exciting and unique space that will give our group plenty of room to work. Please note that we will only be using the LaunchHouse space during the hours specified below. We will not be able to provide sleeping locations or overnight access to the facility.

For this Game Jam, we will be participating in the 24th Ludum Dare Game Jam. Ludum Dare is one of the largest game jam events in the world with an emphasis on an open game developer community. On the evening of August 24th, community theme voting results will be collated together and the winning theme will be announced. Game Jam attendees will have the option to participate solo in the 48 hour "Compo" event or within a team for the 72 hour "Jam" event. It is highly recommended that people interested in working within a team form it in advance. Participants will need to bring their own laptops or desktops and whatever software or technology they need for creating games. Participants also have the option to build “paper prototype” games using whatever supplies they wish to bring. Event Rules:
This event is for individuals over 18 years of age with a valid photo ID and signed liability waiver. Those under 18 years of age must have a legal guardian sign the liability waiver. Liability waivers will be handed out at the event entrance and are available in advance.
The event is non-smoking and use of alcohol or drugs is not permitted.
Attendees are responsible for the security of their belongings during the event. It is recommended that attendees take their belongings home with them each night.
